Guides for auto repair shops

Free auto repair shop website templates: which are really free

You can get a good-looking auto repair website template for free from Wix, Framer, Zarla or free HTML and WordPress downloads, but "free" usually means free to start, not free to put online with your own domain. A template with no ongoing cost needs hosting you set up yourself; the easy ones charge a monthly plan when you publish.

Below: the free templates worth looking at, what each really costs to go live, how to turn one into a page that makes the phone ring, and the mistakes that make a template site look like a template.

The four kinds of "free" template

Every free template falls into one of four groups. Knowing which you're looking at saves you an evening of work on something you can't publish the way you wanted.

KindExamplesFree partWhat costs money
Builder templateWix auto repair templatesTemplate and editor; free plan with the builder's branding and address [1]A paid plan to use your own domain and remove the branding
Design-tool templateCamber Auto on Framer [2]The template ("Remix for free")A Framer site plan for a custom domain (check Framer's pricing)
AI site generatorZarla mechanic templates [3]Building and previewingPublishing ("you only pay when you're ready to publish")
Downloadable HTML or WordPress themeMical by html.design [4], free WordPress auto repair themesThe filesHosting and a domain; an attribution line unless you pay to remove it

The first three are quick: you type into the page you see. The fourth is cheapest to keep running, but you or someone you trust has to set up hosting and edit code or WordPress.

Free templates worth a look

Camber Auto (Framer)

Made for auto shops, garages and tire shops. It comes with Home, Services, About, Contact and Blog pages, service detail pages (brake repair, oil change), an estimate request form with vehicle and service fields, a sticky call bar on mobile, click-to-call links and a Google Maps embed [2]. That mobile call bar is the single most useful thing a shop site can have. You edit it in Framer, which works like a design app.

Wix auto repair templates

Several free templates with a drag-and-drop editor. Good if you want to move blocks around yourself. The free plan shows Wix branding and a Wix web address; your own domain needs a paid plan [1].

Zarla mechanic templates

Zarla lists 31 auto repair templates and writes the first draft of the words for you from a description of your shop. You can switch designs while keeping your content. Building and previewing are free; publishing is paid [3].

Mical (html.design)

A free HTML template for car repair, car washes and service stations: Home, Services, About and Contact, plus a gallery. It is free for commercial use with attribution under Creative Commons 3.0: you keep the "free template via html.design" line in the footer, or pay a one-time fee to remove it [4]. You need hosting.

Free WordPress auto repair themes

Theme makers such as Aster Themes offer free mechanic themes, usually with a paid "pro" version. Install them on any WordPress host. Check the theme's last update date: a theme that hasn't been updated in a year or two is a security risk.

If you'd rather compare paid plans side by side, our guide to the best website builder for an auto repair shop lists what each costs over three years.

Is a free template good enough for a repair shop?

Yes, if you replace everything on it that isn't true about your shop. A template is a layout; customers don't care where it came from. What they notice is whether it says what you fix, shows your real shop, and lets them call in one tap. A free template with your own words and photos beats an expensive one left with "Lorem ipsum" in the footer.

It is not good enough when it stays on a free plan's address (yourshop.wixsite.com), because that looks temporary and doesn't build up your own domain's standing on Google. Budget for your own domain from the start.

What to change on any template before it goes live

Work through this list top to bottom. It takes two to four hours once you have your photos and words ready.

  1. Every photo. Replace stock photos with your own: the front of the shop as customers see it from the street, the bays, the team, a clean waiting area. A phone camera in daylight is fine. Stock photos of smiling mechanics are the fastest way to look like everyone else.
  2. The headline. Not "Quality Auto Service" but who you are and where: "Brake, engine and AC repair in Fresno. Toyota, Honda, Subaru."
  3. The call button. Your real number as a tap-to-call link at the top. Test it from a phone.
  4. Services. Delete the ones you don't do. Templates often list towing, body work or car sales; leaving them in brings the wrong calls.
  5. Makes. Add a line for the makes or types of vehicle you work on. Many templates have no spot for it; add a short section.
  6. Reviews. Delete the sample testimonials and their made-up names. Use real reviews copied from your Google profile with the reviewer's first name, or a link to your Google reviews. Never keep a template's sample reviews.
  7. Hours, address, map. Your real hours, holiday hours, and a map link that opens directions.
  8. Footer. Remove sample addresses, "Your Company 2024", placeholder social links, and any link to a page you deleted.
  9. Page title and description. In the template's SEO settings: "Auto Repair in Fresno | Smith's Garage" and one sentence about what you fix. Templates ship with the template's own name here.
  10. Forms. Send a test request and make sure it reaches an inbox someone reads every day.

How to put a free template online for the least money

RouteStepsOngoing cost
Builder planPick the template, edit, buy the cheapest plan that allows a custom domain, connect the domainThe plan plus domain renewal
Static HTML on a free hostEdit the HTML files, upload them to a free static host (several offer free tiers), connect your domainDomain renewal only
WordPressBuy hosting, install WordPress and the theme, edit, connect your domainHosting plus domain, plus your time on updates

Whichever you choose, register the domain in your own name at a registrar you log into. A .com usually costs around $10–$20 a year; the registrar shows the renewal price before you buy.

Five mistakes that make a template site look like a template

When a free template is the wrong choice

A template saves the design, not the work. You still need to write your services, take photos, set up a domain and keep hours current. If the shop is busy enough that the site has been "next week" for a year, a template won't change that. Options then are your shop software's built-in site, a local web designer, or a done-for-you homepage. Full Room builds an independent shop's homepage from what it already publishes; you can ask for a free preview and compare it with a template before spending anything.

After it's live: make Google find it

A new site on its own gets few visitors. Link it from your Google Business Profile, Apple Maps, Yelp and Facebook, and keep your name, address and phone identical everywhere. The full steps are in our guide to auto repair shop SEO.

FAQ

Are free mechanic website templates safe to use for a business?

Yes, from known sources (Wix, Framer, theme makers with recent updates). Read the license: some free HTML templates require a credit line in the footer.

Can I use a free template with my own domain?

On builders, usually only on a paid plan. With a downloaded HTML or WordPress template, yes, on any host you choose.

Which free template has online booking?

Camber Auto on Framer includes an estimate request form [2]; builder templates add booking through the builder's scheduling add-on, which is often paid.

Do I need a different template for a mobile mechanic?

No. Use any auto repair template and replace the address and map with your service area (the towns or ZIP codes you cover) and how to book a visit.

How long does it take to customize a template?

Two to four hours for a one-page site once photos and words are ready; gathering those usually takes longer than the editing.
