Google Business Profile Verified but Not Showing: What to Check

First find out which problem you have. If your business does not appear even when you search its exact name and town, the cause is usually a timing delay, a duplicate listing, a suspension, a hidden address or an eligibility issue. If it appears for its name but not for searches like "plumber near me", it is not missing, it is ranking low, and the fix is different. This guide gives a test to tell them apart, then a checklist for each case in the order to try it.

Being verified means Google confirmed you control the profile. It does not promise that the profile will appear in every search or straight away. If you are still waiting for the code, see verification code not received. For how verification works, see Google Business Profile verification. Everything below assumes the profile shows as verified in your Business Profile Manager.

Step 1: tell missing from ranking low

Run these three checks on a phone, signed out of your Google account or in a private tab, so you see what a customer sees.

  1. Search your exact business name plus your town. Does a profile with a map pin and your details appear?
  2. Search the Maps app for the same. Does your pin appear?
  3. Search what customers type, for example "hair salon near me" or "emergency plumber [town]". Do you appear in the map results?

Step 2: allow for the delay, then stop waiting

After verification, changes can take a little while to show publicly. Sources disagree on how long. Owners report anything from minutes to a few days, and some profiles take longer after edits to the name or address, which can trigger a review. A fair rule: if your profile does not show for its exact name within about three days of verification, and nothing is flagged in your account, stop waiting and work through the checks below. Do not edit the name, address, category and hours again and again while you wait, because every edit can restart a review.

Step 3: check for a duplicate or an old listing

If the address once held another business, or you moved, Google may show an older listing with the old name, which crowds out yours. Also check whether you created two profiles by accident.

  1. Search the street address in Maps. Does an old business show at your location?
  2. Search your phone number. Does it appear on a profile you do not manage?
  3. In Business Profile Manager, check that you do not have two entries for the same place.
  4. If you find a duplicate you own, you can ask Google to mark one as a duplicate of another, or remove the extra. If a former business still shows at your address, use "Suggest an edit" on its listing and choose "Mark as closed or moved".

Be careful: removing the wrong profile can lose reviews. Look at both before you act.

Step 4: check for a suspension or a restricted status

If your profile appeared at first and then vanished, or it shows a red or yellow warning in your Business Profile Manager, it may be suspended or under review. Typical causes Google lists in its policies include a business name stuffed with keywords or a service area business that shows an address. See how to set up a Google Business Profile for the name and address rules.

Step 5: check the address and service area setting

Many verified profiles are invisible because of the address setting.

If your service area is set too wide or too narrow, you may also appear in fewer searches than you expect. Keep it to the places you really serve.

Step 6: check category, hours and completeness

  1. Primary category. It should match what customers search: "Plumber", not "Home improvement". Wrong primary categories are one of the most common reasons for poor visibility.
  2. Opening hours. Add them. Businesses without hours may show less in "open now" searches.
  3. Phone, website, services and description. Fill them in with plain, accurate facts. Do not stuff keywords into the name.
  4. Photos. A few real photos of the front, the inside and the work. They help customers and show the profile is active.

Step 7: check eligibility

Not every business qualifies. Google's guidelines say a business must make in-person contact with customers during its stated hours, or serve customers at their locations. Online-only businesses, rental properties, unstaffed locations and some practitioner listings can be refused or later suspended. If you work from home with no customer contact at the address, set it up as a service area business with the address hidden, as long as you really visit customers.

Step 8: when you are found by name but not by searches

This is ranking, and it often feels like "not visible" to an owner. Google's help page says local results are based mainly on relevance, distance and prominence. A new profile has no history, few reviews and few clicks, so it starts low for generic searches. What to do:

When to contact Google

If you have worked through the steps, the profile shows as verified, there is no warning, and you are still missing by name after about a week, contact Business Profile support from the help page, using the chat or email option for your profile. Have ready: your profile name and address, the date of verification, screenshots of the searches, and what you have already checked. Ask the community forum if support is slow. Do not pay anyone who promises to "unlock" your listing.

A short checklist to print

  1. Searched my exact name and town on a phone, signed out.
  2. Waited about three days after verification, without making edits.
  3. Checked for a duplicate or an old business at my address.
  4. Checked my profile for a suspension notice.
  5. Checked address, service area and consistency across the web.
  6. Checked primary category, hours and the basics.
  7. Checked I am eligible.
  8. Contacted support with screenshots.

Frequently asked questions

Why is my verified Google Business Profile not showing on Maps?

The common causes are a short delay, a duplicate or older listing, a suspension, a hidden address on a service area profile, or an eligibility problem.

How long until a verified profile appears?

Often quickly, sometimes a few days. If nothing shows for your exact name after about three days, start checking the causes above.

Why do I show for my name but not for "near me" searches?

Your profile exists but ranks low. Relevance, distance and prominence decide position, and new profiles start with little prominence.

Can I appear in Maps without a street address?

You can have a profile that serves an area without a pin. Your listing can appear in search for the places you serve, but it will not show as a map location.

Does editing my profile help it appear?

Fix real errors, but do not edit repeatedly. Changes to the name, address or category can trigger a review and delay visibility.

Should I create a new profile if the old one is hidden?

No. A second profile for the same business can cause duplicates and suspension. Fix the existing one.

What to do next

Run the three searches in Step 1 on your phone now. That tells you which half of this page applies. Once you are visible, the next job is reviews: check how your Google reviews compare with your nearest rivals, free, and get a working link and a printable sign. More guides are on the guides page.
