How much does a restaurant website cost?
Anywhere from $0 to more than $5,000 a year. A free builder or menu tool costs nothing to $204 a year; restaurant platforms with ordering and marketing list $249 to $499 a month, which is up to $5,988 a year before per-order fees [6]. A designer or agency adds a one-time $1,000 to $15,000 or more [15].
The big differences come from two things: whether you take orders online, and whether the service takes a cut of each order. Below are real prices, each with its source and the day we read it.
Prices of real options, side by side
US list prices. Yearly prices are what you pay when billed for a full year up front. Card processing is extra wherever diners pay online.

Wix, Squarespace, Square, ChowNow and DoorDash read Oct 22, 2026; the others Oct 23, 2026. Agency figures are one firm's published ranges, not quotes. Prices change often: check the source before you buy.
What drives the cost
Online ordering. A page with your menu and hours is cheap or free almost everywhere. Ordering is where prices split: some tools include pickup ordering free (Menubly, Menuthere's free plan, GloriaFood until it closes), others charge for it by the month or by the order.
Commission or flat fee. A flat fee stays the same however busy you get. A per-order fee grows with every order. Owner.com recommends its flat $499 plan once you pass about $5,000 a month in online sales [6], which tells you where the percentage starts to cost more than the flat price.
Design. Doing it yourself on a builder costs your time. A freelancer or small agency costs $1,000 to $3,000 once; a full-service agency $7,000 to $15,000 or more [15].
Upkeep. Menus and prices change. If someone else updates the site, budget for it: one firm lists maintenance retainers at $50 to $200 a month [15]. If you can change a price from your phone, that cost is your few minutes.
Domain. Your own .com costs about $10 to $20 a year [16]. Many builders include it free for the first year on a yearly plan, then charge the renewal [1] [2].
Photos. A professional half-day food shoot runs $500 to $1,500 [15]. Clear phone photos in daylight work for most takeout menus.
Hidden costs: the fee on every order
A worked example, not your numbers: a takeout place with 300 pickup orders a month at $25 each, so $7,500 a month in online orders.
| Fee | Per month | Per year |
|---|---|---|
| A 3% per-order fee | $225 | $2,700 |
| Card processing at 2.9% + 30¢ (Stripe's list rate [14]) | $307.50 | $3,690 |
| Owner.com Flex: $249 plus 5% per order [6] | $624 | $7,488 |
| Owner.com Flat: $499, no restaurant fee [6] | $499 | $5,988 |
| DoorDash pickup commission, 6% [13] | $450 | $5,400 |
| DoorDash delivery on the Basic plan, 15% [13] | $1,125 | $13,500 |
| No commission, diners pay at pickup | $0 | $0 |
Two fees don't show on your bill. Owner.com also charges guests a 5% fee on each order [6], and Popmenu's $1 an order is charged to diners [7]: here that is $375 or $300 a month paid by your customers, on top of your prices.
Card processing is paid whenever diners pay online, on almost any service. When they pay at the counter, you pay your usual card terminal rate instead.
A friend of ours, Sam, runs a small takeout place with his brother. He thought the delivery apps' cut was the cost of being found, until he added up one month of fees on the back of a ticket: more than his rent. Most of those orders came from regulars who already knew him and used the app out of habit. Do the same sum with your own last month before you compare plans.
Monthly or yearly
Paying for a year up front is usually cheaper. Menubly Pro is $119.88 a year paid monthly, or $95.99 paid yearly [3]. iMenuPro is $192 a year paid monthly, or $135 yearly [4]. Squarespace's lowest plan is $25 a month month to month, or $19 billed yearly [2]. Menuthere gives two months free on yearly billing [5].
Monthly keeps you free to leave. Before you pay for a year, check the refund terms and how to cancel. Some owners' reviews of restaurant platforms describe charges that kept coming after they cancelled.
What an independent takeout place actually needs
- The menu, with prices, sizes and choices, readable on a phone without zooming or a PDF.
- Hours, including holiday changes, kept true.
- A map and address, with parking or pickup notes if they matter.
- A phone number that calls when tapped.
- Pickup ordering, if you want orders without the phone ringing for each one.
- A link from your Google profile. Google lets you add your own ordering link to your Business Profile [17], so diners who find you on Maps can order from your page instead of a delivery app.
Many takeout places don't need a custom design, an app, loyalty points or email marketing to start. Those are what the $249 to $499 a month platforms add.
If you use GloriaFood now
GloriaFood is being retired on April 30, 2027, according to its in-app notice [12]. Its free plan covered pickup ordering with cash at pickup; card payments were $29 a month [11].
What moving costs depends on where you go. Menuthere is free up to 50 orders a month with its badge, or $17 a month (about $204 a year) with no cap [5]. Menubly Pro is $95.99 a year [3]. UpMenu's ordering plans run $49 to $169 a month (read Oct 22, 2026) [19]. Owner.com and Popmenu cost what the table shows.
The other cost is time: retyping a long menu with sizes and choices can take hours (our estimate). Look for a service that imports your GloriaFood menu, and run both side by side before you switch the button on your site. More on the move: moving off GloriaFood.
Where Full Room fits
Full Room is a menu site with pickup ordering for independent takeout places. Paste your GloriaFood link or your website, and your menu comes over. Diners order for pickup and pay you when they collect; your phone rings on each order. A QR print kit is included, and there is no commission on orders. It's 30 days live free with a saved card, then one charge for setup and the first year: $149 if you lock it within 7 days of building your free preview, $199 after. Then $49 a year. Cancel online. If you're moving from GloriaFood, you can lock the price now and start the 30 days when you switch. Diners can't pay by card online yet, so it suits places happy with pay at pickup. See pricing.
Questions
Is a free website enough?
For many takeout places, yes, if it shows the menu, hours, address and phone, and you can keep it up to date. Free plans often carry the tool's badge, an order cap (Menuthere: 50 a month [5]) or no custom domain. Check those limits against how busy you are.
Do I need online ordering?
Not to have a website. It helps if your phone is busy at rush hour or diners ask to order ahead. Pickup ordering without card payments is the cheapest kind: several tools include it free or flat-priced.
Should I pay monthly or yearly?
Yearly is about 15 to 30% cheaper in the examples above. Monthly is easier to leave. Read the refund and cancel terms either way.
Is a percentage fee or a flat fee better?
A percentage is cheaper when you have few orders and costs more as you grow. In the example above, 3% of $7,500 a month is $2,700 a year, more than many flat yearly plans.
How much should a designer charge?
One published range is $1,000 to $3,000 for a freelancer or small agency and $3,000 to $15,000+ for an agency [15]. Ask whether menu updates, hosting and ordering are included, and what each costs after the first year.
Can I keep my domain if I switch?
Usually, yes: a domain you registered in your name can be pointed at a new site. A domain bought inside a builder's plan may need to be transferred out first. Ask before you cancel.
